Facial Neuromuscular Retraining
نویسنده
چکیده
Facial neuromuscular retraining has been found to be effective in diminishing the effects of synkinesia and improving voluntary movement. In 1982, Balliet and colleagues described a clinical program for facial nerve retraining that included mirror exercises, electromyography (EMG) biofeedback, and personalized home exercise programs for patients more than 2 years after facial nerve injury. Case reports demonstrated improvements in facial function.

Development of an intraoral device for facial muscle retraining and its clinical application.
The aim of this work was to develop a facial neuromuscular retraining technique for cases of facial palsy, involving an easy-to use intraoral device that allows correcting abnormal neuromuscular patterns and improving esthetics. Facial palsy is a motor alteration of multiple origin that results in facial asymmetry. Treatment remains controversial to date and includes, surgical anastomosis and d...

PURPOSE OF REVIEW Complete flaccid facial paralysis, as well as the synkinetic and hyperkinetic sequelae of partial recovery, has significant impact on quality of life. Patients suffer from functional deficiencies, cosmetic deformity, discomfort and social consequences leading to emotional distress. Despite an extensive and sophisticated array of available interventions for facial reanimation, ...
متن کاملNeuromuscular prehabilitation to prevent osteoarthritis after a traumatic joint injury.
Post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) is a process resulting from direct forces applied to a joint that cause injury and degenerative changes. An estimated 12% of all symptomatic osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip, knee, and ankle can be attributed to a post-traumatic cause. Neuromuscular prehabilitation is the process of improving neuromuscular function to prevent development of PTOA after an initi...

Individuals with facial paralysis and distorted facial expressions and movements secondary to a facial neuromotor disorder experience substantial physical, psychological, and social disability. Previously, facial rehabilitation has not been widely available or considered to be of much benefit. Purpose: To evaluate the comparative effectiveness of neuromuscular re-education technique and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation technique on improving facial disability and synkinesis in rehabilitation of bell's palsy. Methodology: It was a randomized clinical trial consisting 40 participants (males and females) 20 in each group, with Bell’s palsy of non-traumatic origin. Group A recei...
